“Fishing Report” 6-30-10
The walleye fishing was very good over the last couple of days on Cass. Finally the wind blew out of the same direction for more than a day and the fish showed up in big numbers on some of the mid-lake structure. It is amazing how many walleyes will stack up, when we get some consistent weather patterns. It also amazes me how so many fish can show up on a particular spot with the right conditions and then just vanish when the wind switches. All I know is there are a lot of walleyes cruising around Cass Lake and if you are on the right spot at the right time there is some awesome walleye fishing to be had.
Good Luck to everyone over the 4th and take care……..Chad
“Fishing Report” 6-26-10
The walleyes on Cass have been a little hit and miss this past week. Many spots that were holding fish earlier in the week haven’t had much activity the past few days. There are still some spots that have been consistently holding fish, but they are a little harder to find. The walleyes are still holding anywhere from 12ft-30ft. Rigs with leeches or crawlers have still been producing for us and there have been other guys having some success pulling spinners & crawlers along the breaks. Night fishing is also an option on Cass. Long lining a #5 or#7 Shad Rap, or shallow diving stick baits always produces some walleyes on Cass in the evening and after dark. Some nicer sized Perch have been showing up in pretty good numbers this week also. North Cedar Bar is always a good place to start when looking for the jumbo’s. If you can find some of the isolated weed patches up on the top of the bars in 6-10ft, there are usually some good sized perch nearby. Good Luck to all this week and take care…..Chad “Cass Lake Report” 6-16-10
First of all I apologize for not keeping up with my fishing reports. It gets pretty busy with the guiding, family, tournaments etc… and I haven’t found much time to sit down and write a current report. The walleye fishing on Cass Lake has been pretty good for the last few weeks. Most of the fish were in the 12-15ft depths last week and biting well on lindy rigs with a leech or crawler. This week quite a few fish have been showing up in the 15-30ft depths with leeches and crawlers still working well. If a person wants to spend a little more money on Red Tails or Creek Chubs they also work well on Cass, and produce some bigger fish if that is what you are looking for. The mayfly hatch is still going on and the fishing has been a little trickier the last couple of days. The walleyes have been moving around quite bit and some days they have been harder to pin down. Your best bet is to hit the points and the main lake bars and run up and down with your electronics to see if there are any fish holding on the particular point. If you don’t see much activity, keep moving until you find a point that is holding some fish. The walleyes on Cass move around a lot and a person has to stay pretty mobile to find some active ones day to day. The perch fishing on Cass during the last couple of weeks has been a little on the slower side. The bite should pick up as soon as we get some warmer weather and the lake starts to green up a bit. Good Luck to every one!!
Take care……Chad “Cass Lake Opener Report”5-17-10
The 2010 opener was one of nicest we have seen for weather conditions in quite a few years. With 5-10 mph winds from the south and highs around 70 degrees made for some very enjoyable fishing on opening day. With the early ice out and the above average water temps this year the walleyes are somewhat ahead of schedule in their locations. There are still a good number of walleyes near the river mouths and on the shoreline flats adjacent to the river mouths. Many of these shoreline walleyes are relating to the inside and outside edges of the newly emerging weed beds on the flats. There are also pretty good numbers of walleyes already showing up out on some of the main lake structure that typically doesn’t produce fish at this time of year. The surface temperatures are in the mid fifty degree range right now and should be in the low sixties probably by early next week. This should bring many of the walleyes up shallow for a while as they feed on the shiners that will move in to spawn when the water temps are in this range. Once the shiners finish their spawn the walleyes will once again pull back out into a little deeper water.Hope everyone had a good opener and Good Luck this week!!
Take care…..Chad
